Pakatan Harapan is stuck and cannot move forward
Pakatan Harapan and Mahathir’s Pribumi are facing a major dilemma. Who are going to be the PM and DPM if the opposition successfully marches into Putrajaya? Muhyiddin and Mukhriz from Pribumi are not acceptable to Pakatan Harapan. In fact, they might not even win the next general election. So now they no longer talk about replacing Najib or who the new PM and DPM should be and instead just talk about Umno and BN. And this is precisely what Najib’s Boffin Boys want them to do.
PAKATAN’S GAME OF THRONES
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported something very interesting, which you can read below. Basically this was yet another general election forecast from Rafizi Ramli. If Chinese support for the opposition in the coming general election can be boosted to 80%, Rafizi said, Pakatan Harapan and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s PPBM a.k.a. Pribumi can most likely win an additional 27 parliamentary seats on top of the 87 they won in the last general election.
That means in the next general election the opposition can win 114 parliament seats and they need just 112 to form the federal government.
Rafizi confirms Pakatan Harapan needs the Chinese to win the next general election since PAS is no longer with the opposition coalition and they are losing out on the Malay votes
Last month, Rafizi forecasted that if all the opposition parties unite under one coalition (meaning PKR, PAS, DAP, PAN @ Amanah and PPBM @Pribumi are all members of Pakatan Harapan) then they will win at least 125 parliament seats as opposed to Barisan Nasional’s 97 seats.
If not then Pakatan Harapan will not be able to even retain the 87 seats that it won in the pervious general election in 2013 and may win less than 70 seats this time around.
Now, I am not too concerned about the figures and number of seats they forecast to win and so on. I know most people will focus on those ‘statistics’. What I am more focused on is the fact that now Rafizi and the opposition no longer talk in terms of ‘if you oppose Najib Tun Razak then vote opposition’. For the last two or three years Najib has been the target and the battlecry was ‘reject Umno and Barisan Nasional if you do not want Najib as Prime Minister’.
Mahathir has met Anwar twice in court but will never accept ‘an immoral sodomite’ as the Prime Minister
Today they just talk about rejecting Umno and no longer talk about rejecting Najib. The opposition has finally realised that using Najib as the bogeyman does not do the trick. And the two by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar plus the Sarawak state election has proven this. Using Najib as the reason to not vote Umno or Barisan Nasional is not a winning election strategy.
If they continue with this strategy that if you do not want Najib then vote opposition, they will need to explain to the voters who is going to replace Najib once Pakatan Harapan marches into Putrajaya. So now they no longer talk about ousting Najib but about ousting Umno and Barisan Nasional. And that would mean the issue of who the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister from Pakatan Harapan are going to be need not be mentioned.
Last year, in the UK, Mahathir said that Muhyiddin Yassin will take over as Prime Minister once Umno and Barisan Nasional are kicked out and, by extension, Najib is ousted. Then Mahathir realised he made a huge mistake because of Muhyiddin’s sex scandal with a Chinese married woman.
Naming Muhyiddin as Najib’s successor actually backfired and a short while later Mahathir did a U-turn and said it was too early to talk about who should take over as Prime Minister once Umno and Barisan Nasional are kicked out.
Tunku Aziz revealed the secret pact between Mahathir and Kit Siang for Mukhriz to be PM and him (Kit Siang) to be DPM and this almost triggered an earthquake
Then, in December 2016, Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang did a deal. Kit Siang will support Mukhriz for Prime Minister if Mahathir supports him (Kit Siang) for Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister. This was a secret deal but it was leaked the very next day and, yet again, it attracted negative responses. Not only was Malaysia not yet ready for a Chinese Deputy Prime Minister (especially an anti-Islam Deputy Prime Minister) but Mukhriz was viewed as a most unsuitable candidate for
Prime Minister.
To most people Mukhriz is just Boboi. He does not even speak well and is not convincing and articulate. If he was just Mukhriz Jusoh no one would give him the time of day. It is because he carries the name of Mahathir that the opposition people give him some weight. As a Deputy
Minister or a Menteri Besar of a small state like Kedah most people can tolerate him. But this is more to give face to Mahathir (and only because Mahathir now opposes Umno or else no deal) rather than because Mukhriz is a fantastic chap. But as the Prime Minister of Malaysia that is a tall order and most would cringe at the thought.
Both Mahathir and Kit Siang know that Muhyiddin and Mukhriz are no go. When Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim revealed the deal that Mahathir made with Kit Siang (which is Mukhriz is going to become the Prime Minister with Kit Siang as his Deputy and Finance Minister) the earth moved from under Pakatan Harapan’s feet and we almost saw an earthquake.
Mahathir was very unhappy that this secret got leaked and it became worse when Mahathir confirmed that DAP had asked for the post of Deputy Prime Minister and then, when he realised his mistake, he
quickly did a U-turn and said it was MCA and not DAP that had asked for the post of Deputy Prime Minister. That was a major foot-in-the-mouth blunder.
First Mahathir said if you want BR1M to be abolished then kick out Umno and Barisan Nasional and vote opposition because Pakatan Harapan is going to abolish BR1M. Then, when he realised this was a mistake because the people wanted BR1M, Mahathir did a U-turn and said he supported BR1M after all.
Next, Mahathir said, if Umno and Barisan Nasional are replaced with Pakatan Harapan, Muhyiddin would replace Najib as Prime Minister. Then Mahathir realised that this, too, was a mistake because Muhyiddin has this sex scandal with someone’s wife hanging over his head and not many would agree to replace Najib with Muhyiddin (especially now that the Johor religious authority is about to take action against him). So, yet again, Mahathir did a U-turn and said it was too early to talk
about who should become the Prime Minister if Najib is ousted.
Muhyiddin’s sex scandal with Nika Gee is soon going to see him before the Johor Sharia Court to face charges
Then we had Mahathir confirming that a deal had been made with Kit Siang for him to become the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister with Mukhriz as Prime Minister. When Mahathir realised that this was a blunder in a series of blunders he did another U-turn and said it was MCA and not DAP that wanted the post of Deputy Prime Minister.
But one thing that Mahathir never did was to announce that Mukhriz was NOT going to become the Prime Minister. Mahathir remained silent on that one.
Actually, not many people realise that all through his political career since the 1960s Mahathir has been doing U-turn after U-turn. But at that time he was on top of the world and could get away with
it. Today, Mahathir is no longer the top dog like before but is just a running dog of the Chinese-dominated DAP and DAP-dominated Pakatan Harapan. So Mahathir cannot get away with his U-turns so easily any more.
You may have realised that since the last few months Muhyiddin is no longer very prominent in the opposition and no one talks about him much. The same goes for Mukhriz. The opposition cannot openly discard Muhyiddin and Mukhriz so they are doing it gradually and quietly. As far as Pakatan Harapan is concerned Muhyiddin and Mukhriz are damaged goods and need to be buried and forgotten.
This is a big blow to Pakatan Harapan because Muhyiddin and Mukhriz are considered the two main generals. Even more problematic would be if Muhyiddin and Mukhriz are discarded then who will replace them? Who are the new candidates for Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister?
They have already sworn it is not Kit Siang. It certainly cannot be Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar and his family would never allow it to be Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali. Muhyiddin is going down because of his sex scandal with Nika Gee. And proposing Mukhriz as the successor to Najib is akin to replacing the Emperor with the court jester.
Muhyiddin and Mukhriz are gradually and quietly being discarded but then who are going to be Pakatan Harapan’s new candidates for PM and DPM?
So who do they have to replace Najib? Actually no one. And that is why over the last couple of months they no longer talk about replacing Najib. They have no one from the opposition to replace Najib. So they just talk about replacing Umno and Barisan Nasional. And you can see this from Rafizi’s last few election analyses. The ‘oust Najib and replace him with a new Prime Minister’ is no longer the battlecry.
Many even do not believe that Muhyiddin and Mukhriz can win the next general election unless they are given a seat in Chinese-majority constituencies and DAP orders its supporters to vote for them. Short of that Muhyiddin and Mukhriz would be wasting their time contesting the general election.
Pakatan Harapan and Pribumi need to come out with new candidates for Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. But the question is who? Until then Pakatan Harapan and Pribumi are no longer going to talk about ousting Najib. If they do then then will need to explain ‘oust Najib and replace him with whom’?
They will continue talking about replacing Umno and Barisan Nasional and will remain silent on who from Pakatan Harapan and Pribumi are going to be the new Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. But they can only do this for so long. Eventually they will need to mention who from Pakatan Harapan and Pribumi are going to be the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister if and when they march into Putrajaya.
And that will be when the fun starts and when Malaysia Today will write another ‘I told you so’ article.
